Nestled in the confines of a small apartment in Saginaw, MI, a dream began to take shape in June of 2014. Cakd by Tae, born out of a mix of passion and necessity, started its journey as "The Cupcake Boutique 989." It was here, in this humble setting, that Tae, fresh from the experiences of college life and fueled by a lifelong love for baking, decided to chart a new course.
The origins of Cakd by Tae can be traced back to Tae's childhood memories, baking alongside his father, where he first discovered his love for the culinary arts. Despite leaving college, Tae's determination and passion for baking never wavered. In fact, it was this unyielding spirit that laid the foundation for what would soon become a local sensation.
The catalyst for our bakery's story was as heartfelt as it was entrepreneurial. With resources slim and ambitions high, Tae's mother, a natural-born hustler with a keen business sense, proposed a simple yet ingenious idea. She suggested Tae bake cupcakes for her to sell at her workplace in the hospital. This marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter, as those first batches of cupcakes quickly garnered a beloved following.
Tae's journey was marked by a blue 03’ Monte Carlo and a back seat filled with pans of freshly baked cupcakes. These treats, created with care and skill, were not just sold but shared with a growing community of enthusiasts. From family and friends to work colleagues and patrons at local beauty salons, Tae's cupcakes soon became a sought-after delight in the neighborhood.As the popularity of these cupcakes soared, so did Tae's ambitions.
